HOD's Welcome Message
The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or O & G as it is popularly called) was established in 1968 at the inception of the Ahmadu Bello University Medical School under the leadership of Professor J A M Moore. It is one of the main clinical departments of the Faculty of Medicine. It equips both undergraduate and postgraduate students with up-to-date knowledge and skills for managing pregnancy and diseases of the female reproductive tract. Community health workers and nurses also come for rotation as part of their training. The training employs mentorship, with benefits for both the trainee and mentor. There is rotation between the various subspecialties of the department to ensure good exposure. Training includes clinic, theatre and ward activities as well as participation in calls. Members of the department individually or in organized groups partake in research and community service. There is ongoing research collaboration between the department and NGO’s like Marie Stopes and Mc Arthur foundation.
To advance knowledge in research and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a highly specialized manner in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and offering high quality services that are world class with local contents and contemporary outlook while collaborating relevant departments within and outside the country.
To become a world class training, research and service rendering department in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a multidisciplinary approach that will also respond to our local needs.
